So, in an effort to promote metacognitive thinking... um... or something, I decided to try something new this year. I've posted a chart of Bloom's Taxonomy on the back wall of my classroom.

Each time one of my classes completes a new activity, we discuss it briefly, and place it on the Bloom's pyramid.

Activities for my 7th grade classes are posted on the left-hand side of the chart on green paper. The 8th grade gets blue paper and the right-hand side of the pyramid.

While my students aren't quite clear yet on what kind of activities fall into which category, my hope is that as the year goes by, they'll get more familiar with this concept and eventually I'll be able to assign Bloom's levels to project rubrics - "This project must show at least an Evaluating level of learning" - that sort of thing.

And I have to say, I'm pleased by the sight of how many Bloom's domains we've touched on so early in the year.
